Mother Nature's gift to the Nature Coast is the Chassahowitzka River. Chassahowitzka means "Hanging Pumpkins" in the Muskogee language spoken by the Seminole and Miccosukee Tribes of Florida. As one of Florida's best kept secrets this river has escaped development, Just pure nature and the occasional cabin. With an abundance of plant life lining its shores, it is a paradise for nature & wildlife enthusiasts.
Captain Ken, owner of Chassahowitzka River Wildlife Tours, has been offering guided tours on Citrus County rivers for over 30 years. He has chosen to run tours on his favorite, this primitive and unspoiled river, for the past 20 years. As an experienced guide and wildlife authority, Captain Ken will converge upon the basking alligator and the frolicking otters as you enter the Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge. While explaining the history of the river, he won't let you miss the soaring bald eagle, nor the osprey crashing into the water to retrieve it's fish dinner. Deer, wild hogs, raccoons, dolphins, and of course, manatees are common sightings on this beautiful river. Many species of wintering and resident birds fill the skies and shorelines.
Our tours allow you to escape the crowds experienced on other Nature Coast rivers.
Weather conditions and tides sometimes influence trip durations.
