Mother Nature's gift to the Nature Coast is the Chassahowitzka River.  Chassahowitzka means "Hanging Pumpkins" in the Muskogee language spoken by the Seminole and Miccosukee Tribes of Florida.  As one of Florida's best kept secrets this river will allow you to escape the crowds experienced on other rivers. The river begins with crystal clear springs and flows down through the Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge into the Gulf of Mexico.  There is a variety of wildlife and plant life lining its shores.  The river is a true paradise for nature and wildlife enthusiasts. Manatees, alligators, dolphins, turtles, crabs,  schools of fish, and many different species of birds make this river their home.
